IT Infrastruc Optimization Consultant in Dallas, TX

JCPenney Information Technology currently has an opening in Enterprise Performance Management and Forecasting for a Infrastructure Optimization Consultant (IOC).The Infrastructure Optimization Consultant (IOC) is expected to determine and recommend improvements in performance for Open System (Windows, Unix, Linux, etc) servers and applications residing on these systems as well as provide opportunities for cost savings in Open System environments throughout the JCPenney Company.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and report system and application inefficiencies and performance opportunities. Follow through with remediation efforts striving to achieve optimal performance, capacity usage and cost savings.
  • Correlate system and application usage and performance data to business plan data and metrics in order to establish meaningful environment capacity reports, forecasts and identify changes in environment operation.
  • Provide analysis of system and application usage and performance data to identify utilization profiles and trends, establish quantifiable cause and affect relationships. Implement advance notification of trend changes or error conditions.
  • Create and maintain capacity forecasts for environments based on infrastructure usage and business plan information.
  • Participate in the design, development, testing and installation of new capacity planning and performance management tools and methodologies.
  • Identify and remain current on new and changing capacity planning and performance management tools and methodologies. Ensure a high level of technical expertise and business awareness for the department.
  • Analyze and issue formal reports of all hardware upgrades and system changes quantifying impact to capacity throughput and performance.
  • Assist business partners with application performance troubleshooting efforts.

    Requirements:

  • Strong Open System server architecture and administration experience with the following operating systems: Microsoft Windows 2000 and 2003, VMware ESX Server, Solaris, AIX, HPUX and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Strong Open System server capacity management and usage forecasting experience. Experience with capacity and service level management in virtualized environments is a plus.
  • Expert level understanding of Open System server and application performance metrics and performance analysis methodology. Experience with TeamQuest, BMC Patrol, MS Operations Manager, BEZ and other performance data collection tools a significant plus.
  • Strong communication skills including creation of formal presentations, reports and documentation.
  • Strong mathematical skills, specifically with regards to statistical analysis of data.
  • Understanding of LAN and WAN network architectures and the usage of network infrastructures by servers and applications.
  • Understanding of SAN architectures and their usage by servers and applications.
  • Ability to create scripts and custom programs to automate processes, collect data and analyze data.

    The SSC Unix Administrator will support end user operations, work with remote support groups to implement hardware and software changes, provide support and administration of applications and servers located within the facility.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Monitor UNIX systems servers (HP-UX, Solaris) and related components to deliver a highly available and stable system capable of supporting all business applications.

    2. Monitor and complete daily file processing, perform system backups, examine logs files, escalate identified issues to appropriate group and creates, modifies, or deletes local system accounts.

    3. Interface with remote support groups and local vendors to implement hardware and software changes, analyze system failures, replace or coordinate the replacement of failed equipment and provide hands-on assistance for 2nd level problem resolution.

    4. Provide hands-on user support, for a diverse and varying knowledge level group, and first level problem resolution for all IT equipment (not limited to printers, PC?s, monitors, UPS systems, hubs, switches, routers, media converters, cabling, wireless devices) and desktop software (Microsoft Windows O/S, Microsoft Office, Hummingbird, IE).

    5. Daily administration of the LAN (wired/wireless) including system stability, integrity, capacity, and troubleshooting.


    6. Effectively uses all available resources (local, web-based, vendor, support groups, Change Control) to plan and implement new hardware/software installs, de-installs, upgrades, and relocations to ensure no operational impacts occur. Ensure equipment inventory is kept current in the Asset Management Peregrine data base.


    7. Use technical writing and effective documentation skills to thoroughly document problem resolutions using the Remedy Action Request system, per department standards, for future troubleshooting support and historical reference.


    8. Thoroughly understands the functional operation of all SSC systems and processes in order to interpret reports, identify problematic trends, recognize and correct potential process deficiencies.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    * Functional knowledge of HP-UX and Solaris (print queues, log files, system backups, file system, user account setup and maintenance)

    * Installation, configuration, troubleshooting and functional knowledge of common desktop software applications (Microsoft O/S, Office, E-mail, Internet Explorer) and common desktop hardware (printers, monitors, keyboards, mice)

    * Understanding of basic wired and wireless networking concepts

    * Technical writing, analytical skills, effective written and oral communication

    The SSC Unix Administrator will support end user operations, work with remote support groups to implement hardware and software changes, provide support and administration of applications and servers located within the facility.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    1. Monitor UNIX systems servers (HP-UX, Solaris) and related components to deliver a highly available and stable system capable of supporting all business applications.

    2. Monitor and complete daily file processing, perform system backups, examine logs files, escalate identified issues to appropriate group and creates, modifies, or deletes local system accounts.

    3. Interface with remote support groups and local vendors to implement hardware and software changes, analyze system failures, replace or coordinate the replacement of failed equipment and provide hands-on assistance for 2nd level problem resolution.

    4. Provide hands-on user support, for a diverse and varying knowledge level group, and first level problem resolution for all IT equipment (not limited to printers, PC?s, monitors, UPS systems, hubs, switches, routers, media converters, cabling, wireless devices) and desktop software (Microsoft Windows O/S, Microsoft Office, Hummingbird, IE).

    5. Daily administration of the LAN (wired/wireless) including system stability, integrity, capacity, and troubleshooting.


    6. Effectively uses all available resources (local, web-based, vendor, support groups, Change Control) to plan and implement new hardware/software installs, de-installs, upgrades, and relocations to ensure no operational impacts occur. Ensure equipment inventory is kept current in the Asset Management Peregrine data base.


    7. Use technical writing and effective documentation skills to thoroughly document problem resolutions using the Remedy Action Request system, per department standards, for future troubleshooting support and historical reference.


    8. Thoroughly understands the functional operation of all SSC systems and processes in order to interpret reports, identify problematic trends, recognize and correct potential process deficiencies.
