SQL Database Administrator in Dallas, TX

Robert Half Technology, the world's leader in technology staffing, is currently seeking a SQL Server DBA. The primary responsibility for this position is the support and maintenance of SQL Server Application systems and Databases. The overall objective is to insure that the systems are secure, optimized, properly sized and tuned to provide the business with adequate system resources and availability to meet day-to-day demands while providing an acceptable level of service. The functions of the position include: -Project Management - prepare and execute project plans for database and application implementations. -Ability to negotiate deadlines and participate successfully in cross-functional, cross-departmental efforts. -Validate the application and database server hardware/OS configurations to insure that they meet vendor specifications -Install, upgrade and configure SQL Server Databases and Clusters, SQL OLAP services and required application components on designated platforms -Install, upgrade, and configure third party software add ons -Install, upgrade, configure and tune database and application connectivity software -Perform patching of the SQL Server system as required -Develop and implement DBA support utilities, scripts and tools -Insure compliance with database and application licensing -Monitor performance of all tiers of the systems to detect errors and identify areas that need improvement and provide corrective action. -Monitor system resource utilization -Develop and publish capacity planning models -Prepare, analyze and publish performance reports as they relate to SQL Server -Research performance trends to determine outliers and provide assessment of corrective action -Document and maintain an organized log of daily operations, tasks and projects -Provide technical support and guidance to users -Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Experience: Required Skills: -BEA Web logic -JRE and J2EE -Microsoft SQL Server database administration -Microsoft IIS -SQL tuning -Project planning and execution -Analytical, organizational and problem solving skills -Project, task and process documentation skills -Effective oral and written communication skills -Strong working knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 and Active Directory security model -Strong working knowledge of hardware performance tuning. Working knowledge of Hyperion ESSBASE, Adobe Acrobat Distiller, and data modeling of multi-dimensional databases would be a plus. Specific job requirements include: -3 + Years of Experience managing MS SQL Server databases in an enterprise environment -Proficient knowledge in BEA Logic, JRE, J2EE, PL/SQL and Transact SQL programming -Excellent working knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 operating systems -Strong understanding of n-tier application architectures -Proven track record of development and deployment of large scale high performance web applications -Experience with any measuring and monitoring software such as Foglight, Spotlight, HP Openview, Tivoli, OEM, etc. -3 to 5 years experience with ETL tools -Bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience specialized SQL Server training and or certifications -MCDBA certification desirable.
