Systems Engineer focused on Information Technology (IT) systems to support design of applications for a major Shipyard manufacturing surface combatants, amphibious support, and national security cutter class vessels for the United States Navy. Provide Systems Engineering leadership for all stages of the system design lifecycle (SDLC) across the shipyard, with an emphasis on test case and test plan development, V&V testing, and user acceptance tests.
The System Engineer reports to a Project Manager on a non-recurring project acting as the primary interface to the customer and interpreting the customer's needs to the Team keeping both the business and the technical needs of all customers balanced with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user's needs. As such, the System Engineer is the technical lead supporting the Project Manager in implementing the project. In this capacity, they are required to author, review, and gain approval of various documents (i.e., SRD, SAD, SDD, CONOPS, Test Plans, etc.) following CMMI Level 3 and SOX compliancy requirements. The Systems engineer works closely with the Project Management Office to execute design, development and deployment of applications and interfaces to back-end systems in support of the mobility roadmap.
Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
Work is performed without appreciable direction and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results. Guides the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives. Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology; Years of experience preferred; 9 years with Bachelor's Degree; 7 years with Master's Degree.

This is an entry-level position in which the incumbent operates under immediate supervision to apply basic knowledge of computing, operating systems concepts and procedures to assist in the operation, monitoring and control of midrange servers, AS400 consoles, associated communications systems, and peripheral equipment, including processors, tape/disk drives and printers. May also assist Help Desk in resolving and reporting problems; may work at remote sites. Errors may cause limited delay, expense and/or disruption.

REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Work hours:Shift work (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), including weekends. On-Call 24/7, may be required to come in or remotely access corporate network to resolve issues. Will be required to take on additional and variety of assignments during the course of employment to meet business and customer needs.

Operates computer equipment performing tasks and monitoring midrange applications servers (i.e. Active Directory, MS SQL, Oracle databases, Citrix, etc), web site URL’s, and AS400 systems in accordance with a schedule of operations.

Ensures all necessary data files are accounted for and available in order to initiate each processing task. Performs required equipment set up, as needed.

Maintains daily logs, turnovers and equipment malfunction reports.

Responds to requests/trouble events from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance as needed.

This is an entry-level position in which the incumbent operates under immediate supervision to apply basic knowledge of computing, operating systems concepts and procedures to assist in the operation, monitoring and control of midrange servers, AS400 consoles, associated communications systems, and peripheral equipment, including processors, tape/disk drives and printers. May also assist Help Desk in resolving and reporting problems; may work at remote sites. Errors may cause limited delay, expense and/or disruption.

REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Work hours:Shift work (6:00 PM to 6:00 AM), including weekends. On-Call 24/7, may be required to come in or remotely access corporate network to resolve issues. Will be required to take on additional and variety of assignments during the course of employment to meet business and customer needs.

Operates computer equipment performing tasks and monitoring midrange applications servers (i.e. Active Directory, MS SQL, Oracle databases, Citrix, etc), web site URL’s, and AS400 systems in accordance with a schedule of operations.

Ensures all necessary data files are accounted for and available in order to initiate each processing task. Performs required equipment set up, as needed.

Maintains daily logs, turnovers and equipment malfunction reports.

Checks for outstanding replies for bringing tape drives on/off-line or tape error alerts; maintains scheduled reports of operations activities including trouble reports, logs, etc.

Responds to requests/trouble events from systems and applications software and hardware support personnel and users for operations assistance as needed.

Demonstrates knowledge of the daily operation and monitoring of the mid-platform systems.
