Description: A senior-level technical expert, the Infrastructure Management Analyst – Mainframe Capacity & Performance Analyst is a fully qualified individual contributor who applies an in-depth knowledge of Capacity Planning and Performance Management concepts, practices and procedures. As a technical expert, incumbents are competent to work on assignments of extreme technical complexity displaying a mastery of specialized techniques, practices and theories. The incumbent must also possess a level of business acumen that will allow the incumbent to correlate pertinent business drivers to the utilization of specific IT resources. The incumbent routinely works under demanding deadlines/handles heavy workloads, operating with only limited supervision; errors at this level can cause significant delay, expense and/or disruption. Functions in a project/task lead capacity. Provides functional and technical expertise to formulate computer system capacity plans; develops and/or modifies procedures to solve problems using information systems. Prepares detailed documentation, including capacity plans, resource utilization analyses, charts, and reports, supports multiple midrange software and hardware platforms. Tunes mainframe systems and sub-system performance to meet client agreed business needs and service levels. Assignments are in a technical / business functional area.

REPESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

Analyzes the utilization of complex mainframe computer systems, prepares performance utilization reports and trend analyses, prepares performance reports and analyses, correlates business driver metrics to resource utilization and trends and correlates to service level needs and agreements, to ensure that agreed user requirements/program objectives are met.

Develops detailed documentation including graphs and charts, project plans and specifications to translate user requirements into resource planning and capacity requirements.

Analyzes new and existing vendor hardware and software in support of current and future client and ACS capacity requirements.

Consults with account team and clients at the end user and executive level to identify current operational performance and resource utilization issues and to clarify service objectives.
Design, develop, install, and maintain WLM policies.

Monitors computer program performance in support of SLAs and Key-Performance Indicators per ACS ISO 20000 Capacity Management Process standards

Provides direct input during client strategic planning in the form of client facing presentations as required as part of business and technical expertise.

May provide guidance to and assist in the training of less experienced staff; provides hardware/software training as required.

Maintain expert level industry/technical knowledge base and facilitates/maintains industry relationships.

Education and Typical Years of Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including at least
5 years mainframe computer/systems performance and/or capacity management experience in a large-scale mainframe computer/systems environment.

Proficiency using SMF / RMF data, SAS, MXG, Athene, PerfMan, Perform / Predict or other such performance and capacity management software (past use of Athene a plus), personal computer and associated work station/computer-assisted tools, etc.

Other Requirements: Must be fluent in both spoken and written English with minimal accent.
