Salary: $90,000-$100,000 plus 10-20% bonus
STORE PLATFORM SERVICES DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
The Store Platform Services department is responsibility for architecting, implementing and supporting the computing platforms and technical infrastructure in the Company's 1100 retail stores, outlets and catalog distributions centers. The department is comprised of a group of developers and administrators responsible for maintaining the operational integrity of all store servers, workstations, operating systems, databases and other devices that make up the networked equipment environment in stores. The primary functions of this group include designing, developing and implementing tools and processes to integrate and maintain platform software.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
. Develop, test and integrate automated tools and processes to install, configure and support the base Microsoft OS and database software.
. Develop applications, tools and scripts to automate the process of managing, monitoring and updating the SQL Server and Windows Server platform software for 4,000+ servers.
. Coordinates with application teams the implementation of upgrades and patches and to resolve any cross functional application issues.
. Perform analysis, diagnostics and problem determination. Document and follow up on resolution based on understanding the issues, risks and clients needs.
. Develop the technical systems knowledge to insure a complete understanding of the entire Microsoft application architecture and platform as implemented in JCPenney from end to end.
. Participate in design and code reviews, documentation of design and implementation of methodologies to ensure high quality software.
. Optimizes database performance by analyzing queries, stored procedures and database structures and then implements necessary changes to meet application performance service level agreements.
. Work with application teams to develop and implement the logical and physical databases models based upon business requirements as well as architectural and development standards.
. Work with application teams to develop and implement the backup strategies necessary to support the overall store systems disaster recovery process. Develops the monitoring tools and reporting mechanisms to ensure all servers are backed up according to schedule.
. Develop and maintain the database architecture standards and work with the application developers and teams to insure applications are compatible with the current operating systems and database standards.
. Utilize structured project management methodology to deliver project assignments as assigned by management. Responsible for all project deliverables including project scope documents, project plan, issues logs, design documents, status reports and issues logs as well as other key project deliverables.
. Provides 3rd level technical support and problem resolution for production level problems as well as provide on-site store support and training when necessary for assigned projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
. A four year degree in Computer Science or related field with 5+ years of development, platform and/or database management experience
. Must possess a solid understanding of current platforms and technologies including Microsoft Windows Server platform, SQL Server 7.0, 2000 and 2005, Window XP Pro, Microsoft IIS, and networking concepts.
. Solid background in database performance tuning, optimization for large scale transactional database installations.
. Proven experience managing a major database upgrade project where database versions are upgraded from one major release to another.
