JCPenney is looking for an Infrastructure Optimization Consultant in our Enterprise Performance Management and Forecasting Department
Description
The Infrastructure Optimization Consultant (IOC) is expected to: identify and recommend improvements for performance on Open System servers and applications residing on these systems, provide identification of opportunities for cost savings in these environments, monitor and report system and application performance and usage, provide technical analysis of metric data for forecasting and problem determination efforts.
The IOC needs a comprehensive understanding of system performance issues, a broad technical background, excellent communication skills and familiarity of the relationship between business processes and the systems and applications which enable them. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently, using their experience and knowledge to isolate and obtain the correct information required to resolve the problem or complete the project.
Requirements
Strong experience with Open System server and application monitoring, reporting and performance analysis via system monitoring tools. Operating Systems include Windows 2003, Solaris, AIX and Linux.
Experience with automation of monitoring and management tasks via custom scripting or programming as well as data manipulation and transformation.
Expert understanding of server and application performance metrics.
Experience with TeamQuest and/or BMC Patrol/Perform/Visualizer tools for Unix/ Infrastructure Optimization Consultant I
Linux server and application monitoring. Experience with MS Operations Manager or similar tool for Windows server and application monitoring.
Previous experience with system capacity planning and forecasting.
Experience monitoring and/or managing a virtualized environment (AIX, zVM/zLinux, VMware) is a plus.
Strong communication skills including creation of formal presentations, reports and documentation.
Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, prioritizing efforts based on criticality and required deadlines.
Responsibilities
Identify and report system and/or application efficiency or performance opportunities. Follow through with remediation efforts striving to achieve optimal performance, capacity usage and cost savings.
Provide analysis of system and application usage and performance data to identify utilization profiles and trends, establish quantifiable cause and affect relationships. Implement advance notification of trend changes or error conditions.
Create and maintain capacity or usage forecasts based on infrastructure usage and business plan information.
Participate in design, development, testing and installation of new capacity planning and performance management tools and methodologies.
