IT Data Center Project Manager
JCPenney Home Office - Plano, TX


Basic Function:
Manages concurrently a small number of assigned IT projects, utilizing best practices of both project management and Operations industry. Initiate projects/support projects with other IT associates and vendors to ensure operational environments and practices are of the highest standards. Seek out/recommend leading edge technologies to ensure operational environments maintain availability standards of 99.99%.

Principle Responsibilities
1. Manages project efforts within their defined scope, planned time frame, resource levels, and budgeted costs as identified by the project's sponsor and shareholder requirements.
2. Identifies, evaluates, and recommends processes and technologies to ensure a proactive approach to managing Center Operations/operations environment.
3. Develop, deploy and ensure defined best practices and procedures are understood, clearly documented, and adhered to support the business needs and requirements within the Data Centers.
4. Stay abreast of operational trends and environmental equipment enhancements and apply this knowledge as appropriate to assigned projects.
5. Prepare and submit appropriate paperwork, capital requests, RACE forms, project plans, meeting minutes, action items, and to do lists in timely and appropriate manner.
6. Become subject matter expert on new environmental technology/leading edge environmental technology to insure it is introduced and maintained in a professional manner, so we take full advantage of product offerings.

Key Relationships
1. Liaison between DP Operation Data Centers and other IT associates/vendors as it relates to assigned projects/responsibilities.
2. Works with vendors in support of developing, implementing, and maintaining DP Operation Data Center's environmental, IT equipment, and operating processes.
3. Interacts with project sponsors, fellow Project Managers, and project team members based on assigned project roles.


Knowledge and Skills
Education
1. Bachelor of science degree or undergraduates degree in computer science.

Experience
1. Three to four years of large data center experience (must have worked in multiple positions that demonstrate an increasing knowledge of center operations) and one to two years of project management.

1. Project management, analytical and conceptual skills, leadership, interpersonal and outstanding communication and negotiation skills.

Key Challenges
1. Ensuring ongoing Data Center adherence to defined best practices and procedures in an ever changing environment.
2. Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with remote Data Center associates and vendors.
3. Ensure that projects are managed in such a way to minimize/eliminate any impact to JCPenney's customers and or the business.
4. Negotiate priorities to achieve project goals with other groups/associates that may have other commitments and priorities that are in conflict.

Recommendations:
1. Recommend Best Practices and or adjustments to policies and procedures.
2. Recommend hardware and software solutions.
3. Recommend projects.

Decision-Making
1. Determine the true need for best practices and procedures verses allowing associates the freely ability to manage processes.
2. Determine the most appropriate solution(s) to assigned project output.
