DB2 z/OS Programmer in Dallas, TX

Berean Group is seeking a DB2 z/OS Programmer



Position description:



This position will provide DB2 for z/OS and associated third-party program products systems support, system strategic planning, technical support, recommendation, implementation, and management of z/Series systems software including associated components supporting specific technologies.


The position formulates/defines specifications for complex DB2 V8 database and z/OS-JES2 1.7 operating system software program products, and modifies/maintains complex system software configurations.


The position directly supports an operating system environment in which many company applications residing on the IBM z/Series platform utilizes for reliability, availability, and performance.


Position Functions:



1.DB2 UDB for z/OS and associated third-party program product software planning, installation, and support for production and internal disaster recovery data-replication environments. The candidate should fully understand DB2 SMP/E installation, ZPARM specifications, DB2 Connect & DRDA constructs, DB2 system administration, and DB2 performance/tuning using CA Insight, Thread-Terminator, and Detector or equivalent products. This also includes the support of standards, procedures, documentation, and configuration management/support.


2.Additional requirements are strong program product installation, support, and usage skills in the following: CA DB2 Tools (Insight, Thread Terminator, Detector, etc.) or equivalent products.


3.Skills in one or more of the following are a plus but are not required: Installation & configuration of CA-1/7/11, Sun (STK) HSC/SMC/LS/VSM, Telon, Endevor, OPS/MVS, Focus, Syncsort, SAS, CA-Spool, CA-Disk, ACF2, SMP/E, ISPF/TSO, SDSF, system diagnostics and debugging, and DB2 database administration for DBA team support services.


4.Maintain continuous availability of computer systems by installing preventative and corrective maintenance for DB2 and other associated program products.


5.On-call and 3rd level system support providing problem determination and resolution for installed systems software base.

7.Maintain knowledge of vendors current software and hardware products. Prepare evaluations on benchmarks of products to provide recommendations to management.

Required Skills:



-BS/BA required or equivalent experience. Technical training for z/OS in a DB2 Data Sharing and Sysplex environment utilizing various applications and third-party program products.

-Requires 8 -10 years data processing experience with four years of directly related z/Series systems programming experience in medium to large scale data processing installations.

-Requires comprehension of DB2 and z/OS operating system internals, associated program
products, and the methodologies for installing, maintaining, and supporting these systems.

-Strong client management, written/verbal communication, and documentation/planning skills.
