An intermediate-level professional, the Systems Development Specialist is a fully qualified individual producer who applies a broad knowledge of engineering/automation concepts, practices and procedures. Incumbents are competent to work on fairly complex assignments (and/or portions of larger, complex systems) and perform a full range of development activities. The incumbent generally works under deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads, and operating with only general supervision, although errors at this level can cause delay, expense and/or disruption. May provide occasional functional guidance to less experienced staff. Incumbents are responsible for the installation, development, implementation, and customization of hardware and software system elements. 3+ years experience developing in Visual Studio (VB.NET, etc.), PHP, LDAP, MySQL and MSSQL is required.





REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Major Position Responsibilities:

1. Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products

2. Analyzes, programs, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, or Internet-related computer programs

3. Using current programming languages and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications

4. Plans and directs studies of potential electronic data processing applications

5. Develops and installs programs to support general business applications running on PCs

6. Designs web pages, including graphics, animation, and functionality; develops infrastructure and applications related to pages

7. May make hardware or software purchasing recommendations regarding web development

8. Preparation of detailed specifications from which programs will be written, or equipment fabricated or installed.

9. Application of configuration management procedures for changes to the operating system files and software.

10. Participation in the development and preparation of documentation for, but not limited to, procedural, program and user documentation. Designs, develops, installs, implements, fine tunes, documents and/or maintains databases, database dictionaries; monitors standards and procedures and integrates systems through database design and administration.

11. Works with users to ensure successful system implementation; may assist in user training.

12. May provide guidance and assists in training of less experienced staff.

13. May research or write portions of technical proposals.

14. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge and compiles information into recommendations and analyses.

15. Knowledge: Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

16. Job Complexity: Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

17. Supervision: Normally receives general instructions on routine work, detailed instructions on new projects or assignments.

18. All other duties as assigned.



Education and Typical Years of Experience



Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent work experience.



Minimum 5-7 years of progressively responsible related technical experience, including 3 years developing large, technically complex systems and 2 years with major responsibility for developing, revising and controlling technical documentation of a complex system.

8. Ability to train less experienced personnel.

9. Commitment to producing quality (accurate, complete and clearly defined) user/client documentation and technical reports.
