Role and Responsibilities

Systems Engineering Director with full accountability for development and oversight of systems engineering functions across all platforms, programs, products and subsystems in an environment that includes mainframe systems, open systems/midrange and PC's. Other support areas will include large scale program products installation and support (transaction processing monitors, queuing systems, messaging systems, workload management systems, etc?) and key infrastructure systems maintenance and administration. Directs the maintenance of operating systems, installation, configuration, applying patches, 2nd and 3rd level production support as well as strategic planning to support the company's roadmap for future hardware, software and operating systems.

Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, this leader directs a team of 3 group managers, 2 senior managers and 70 systems engineers. Responsible for key technology strategies, staffing and project assignments, expense and capital budgets, and oversight of the organization. Key project deliverables include implementation of the technology components for an event-driven architecture, upgrades to key operating systems and program products such as zOS, AIX, Windows (desktop and server), CICS, and IMS. Additionally, the incumbent in this position will assume a leading role in defining and engineering company's storage and backup/recovery solutions for the foreseeable future.

Qualifications

Proactive technology leader with fifteen years progressive systems engineering and applications experience including a minimum of 10 years experience heading the systems engineering function within a large corporation. Additional requirements:

  • Proven track record of leading and mentoring large teams of highly technical systems engineers
  • Significant capabilities and expert knowledge of strategic aspects of systems engineering in a large-scale technology organization - i.e. picking the ?right? time and place to introduce new or enhanced processing capabilities into a high transaction volume environment with little or no disruption to production systems, and minimal impact to applications.
  • Advanced abilities in abstract and analytical thinking, problem solving, project management, team building, influencing as well as business orientation, vendor management, and financial skills
  • Previously has led a Systems Engineering staff with minimum of 30 professionals; must possess a highly successful management track record.
  • Potential to scale into a larger role with significant additional responsibility.
  • BS/BA or MBA/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or other area, or equivalent professional experience
