Unix Administrator in Dallas, TX
Robert Half Technology, the world's leader in technology staffing, is currently seeking a Permanent Unix Administrator for a firm in Dallas TX. In this role, the candidate will need to install, configure, administer, maintain, monitor and document new and existing Sun Solaris Servers, Linux email servers, backup systems and storage. To provide real-time maintenance and troubleshooting of these high availability servers and is highly involved in architecture and capacity planning. Must be able to learn quickly and work independently and willing to be on-call. Candidate will be instrumental in supporting a three-tier web environment servicing both internal and external customers. On a day to day basis, the candidate will assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of the infrastructure necessary to support a multi-tier, web based, high volume application; Build and maintain the necessary internal infrastructure (email, file servers, etc.) for company operations. Recommend and install of new software and hardware upgrades. Experience: An ideal candidate will have the following experience: 4+ years experience managing Unix platforms; Responsibilities in a 24x7 environment highly desired; 3+ years experience with Sun Solaris; Managing Oracle Enterprise Server; and experience with deploying DNS, FTP, and Web-based technologies such as Tomcat. A strong understanding of TCP/IP and networking is also important; Deploying and managing enterprise backup solutions, and working with a SAN or NAS infrastructure; Experience with shell and Perl scripting. SQL experience is a plus; Proficient with the configuration of Solaris 9 and 10. Skills must include an understanding of file-systems, disk layouts, installation of appropriate OS components, network/systems management, and various third-party products designed for use with Solaris within a mission-critical environment; Ability to diagnose and resolve server and system problems; Experience with Linux Red Hat system administration is a plus; Clustering experience with Oracle; Experience with load balancing a plus; Experience with email tools such as Sendmail and Postfix Additionally, the candidate should have an understanding of such advanced features as DNS, DHCP, NFS, Apache, LDAP, SNMP, Mail Services, DiskSuite/Volume Manager, and Third-Party Network Management. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience working with Oracle Enterprise Server, as well as Internet-based technologies, such as Tomcat, CGI/Perl, HTML, or Java.
