UNIX Systems Administrator in Dallas, TX

IT INFRASTRUCTURE ARCHITECT II / I - UNIX
JCPenney Home Office - Plano, TX

Basic Function:
Provides expert assistance in the development and implementation of the infrastructure operating systems software needed to support JCPenney departments and businesses in carrying out their Company responsibilities.


Principal Responsibilities:
1. Works with project teams, as assigned, to assist and give technical counsel during the development and implementation phases of a project related to UNIX Systems.
2. Develops technical positions to assist in planning software and hardware requirements to ensure the Company's data processing needs are effectively and efficiently met for UNIX systems.
3. Performs special trouble-shooting assignments in infrastructure technology and equipment evaluation on UNIX Systems.
4. Monitors existing technology to ensure it is meeting the design objectives and the Company's Security and Control Program for UNIX Systems.
5. Provides advice and counsel in evaluating technology acquired from outside vendors to ensure it meets our Company standards.
6. Does research in all potential areas of interest in data processing, e.g., office automation, personal computers, artificial intelligence, etc.

Key Relationships:
1. Works with associates in all user departments to ensure that their needs are being met in the most effective way available.
2. Works with outside vendors in defining the Company's software and hardware needs.
3. Participates in outside organizations to ensure that we are using the most effective new hardware and software techniques available to maintain our competitive advantage.
4. Works closely with the internal and external auditors to ensure that we are adequately protecting the Company resources assigned to the department.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
An undergraduate degree is required (preferably a computer science degree); a graduate degree is preferred. Because of the dynamic nature of this activity, a continuing education in the latest data processing techniques is required. In lieu of formal education, progressively more responsible technical experience could also suffice; 8 years for II, and 5 years for I position.

AIX
Veritas
Linux
Etc.

Experience:
II: A minimum of 8 - 10 years' experience in one or more of the following areas: systems planning and design, programming communications, security and control, capacity planning, personal computers, and equipment evaluation.

Systems specific requirements are knowledgeable in System administration in one or more of the following:
SUN/Solaris, Linux, and sendmail.

Optional experience in: HP-UX, and IBM/AIX, clustering environment, fault tolerant environment, high availability and disks in SAN environment.

Core Competencies:
