Basic Function:

Provides expert assistance in the development and implementation of the infrastructure to support the software systems needed to support JCPenney departments and businesses in carrying out their Company responsibilities.

Primary responsibilities include:

- Install, configure, optimize & support DB2/UDB in a mixed workload environment.
- Physically create Data Warehouses, and Data Marts that perform well and meet the client expectations.
- Work with the application team to design a balanced system tuned to the needs of the business user.
- Define database administration standards, policies, procedures, structures, and apply acceptable data content standards.
- Installation, configuration and maintenance of multiple databases and related products in complex production and test UNIX environments.
- Monitor performance, space utilization, identify problems proactively, and ensure security, data integrity and availability.
- Develop scripts, documentation, and procedures for database administration within testing and production environments including stored procedures, triggers, files, tables, and table spaces.
- Support and tune a large scale, high-volume environment. Experience in installation, performance tuning, table space management, security, data integrity, SQL, stored procedures, triggers, query languages, UNIX shell scripting and PERL is desired.
- Database Backup and Recovery strategy implementation, testing and documentation. Analyze complex technical and/or Level 2 system problems. Lead projects or subprojects.
- Requires on call after hours support, including nights and weekends.

REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
An undergraduate degree is required (preferably a computer science degree); a graduate degree is preferred. Because of the dynamic nature of this activity, a continuing education in the latest data processing techniques is required. In lieu of formal education, 8+ years of progressively more responsible technical experience could also suffice.
- 5+ Years experience in IT
- 3+ Years as a DBA
- Strong UDB DB2 DBA experience (including configuration and tuning) working in both large production and development environments - using version 8 of DB2 on Unix systems.
