Infrastructure Manager | Linux | Windows 2003 in Dallas, TX

Our client in North Dallas is looking for a Network Infrastructure Manager. The ideal candidate will have worked in a semi-formal to formal mid-to-large IT organization that has similar technologies as either a technical lead or hands-on manager. The candidate should be able to perform the hands-on engineering and administration, but also have experience leading other technical staff, understands policies, procedures, change management, project planning, project budgeting, architecture design, etc. The person will have extensive experience in managing Suse Linux environments, knows Windows servers and other MS products like Exchange, but also is a strong customer-interface person, knows IT management processes and procedures. This is like a hands-on technical lead person that possibly has worked in a large environment and has exposure to how to run a large IT team.

Scope of the Project:
This position is ultimately responsible for the management of the infrastructure for this client. This does not include help desk or telecom. This includes working with upper management to understand the business and define requirements of the infrastructure, prepare and deliver infrastructure management reports, manage all infrastructure vendors and 1 onsite administrator. This position is responsible for preparing change management documents, building a test lab and piloting changes to the infrastructure before putting them into production, ensuring licensing compliance, putting in operational policies, procedures, and guidelines, etc… On top of this, the person will be expected to perform hands-on technical tasks as required by the position.

Experience: Linux (preferably Suse) engineering and administration background. Able to design and implement Linux systems and able to configure common services such as DNS, SMTP, WWW, LDAP, NIS, etc&#133;.

Experience with LAMP architectures (Linux / Apache / MySQL / PHP) from the systems side. No development experience is required, but scripting is a plus.

Knowledge of tools and management techniques to manage large numbers of servers according to best practices such as backups, disaster recovery, performance tuning, troubleshooting, monitoring tools, creating incident response procedures, creating operations policies and procedures, and user provisioning.

Familiar with writing Unix/Linux scripts with languages such as PERL, C++, etc&#133;

Solaris administration and engineering a plus.

Windows 2003 server including ancillary components such as Active Directory and Exchange.

Fiber-channel storage or ISCSI storage including EMC, Hitachi, Equallogic, Lefthand, Dell, IBM, etc&#133;. storage area networks (SAN).

Familiarity with ITIL or MOF (Microsoft Operations Framework) a plus.

Ability to assess and environment, make recommendations, and implement recommendations for the above technologies.

Strong documentation and presentation skills.
