REQ. #16711 ? MIS APPLICATION DEVELOPER/ANALYST This is a group that provides reporting information to finance, marketing, product management, and upper management. Most of the data will be gathered by queries from the billing and marketing databases using SQL and SAS, although other software tools may be needed. The group also maintains an interactive GUI database of product information that can be accessed by clients. There are four other contingent workers and two employees in similar roles. Duties will be distributed based on expertise, experience and workload, but may include: ? Running and distributing regular weekly or monthly reports on metrics such as product sales, inservice, and churn. ? Conducting one-time Ad Hoc studies, which may involve combining data from different data sources. ? Investigating questionable results in those reports. ? Modifying and improving the reports when needed. ? Validating data from new sources against previous databases and investigating variances. In addition to IT knowledge, should be able to judge whether data results are plausible, and if not, to investigate possible problems. For example, if churn shows a sharp increase, the contractor should be able to notice the out-of-trend condition and work with other contacts to determine whether it is a legitimate result of increased competition or whether it caused by missing data, and if so, whether it is from a specific geographic region, bill period, product code, etc. Experience with telco systems is invaluable for this type of investigation. Being able to present data and short written comments professionally is a plus, as is the ability to go beyond the immediate request to suggest further analyses or interpretations.
