Our client is recognized as a leader in the consumer business, recognizable in the Dallas Fort Worth area! This client is seeking a Data Warehouse Teradata DBA to be responsible for the analysis, design, and development of the Teradata database structures for a large-scale Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
As the Teradata expert, you will be responsible for the physical modeling, production, and performance tuning of the Enterprise Data Warehouse / Data Mart environments. You will regularly interact with various development teams, project manager, business analysts, and end-users.
You should be experienced in analyzing, defining, and documenting data requirements from existing OLTP applications. You should be able to identify and define data sourcing, business rules, and transformation logic for next phases of the project. You should also be able to facilitate Joint Application Design (JAD) sessions and one-on-one interviews.
Duties:
-- Gather, analyze, transform, and validate business requirements into physical data models.
-- Validate logical data models with business subject matter experts.
-- Be the LEAD Database Administrator in transitioning to database schemas from logical data models.
-- Define and enforce standards and conventions (definition, naming, abbreviation).
-- Support project teams on an ad-hoc, as required basis.
Key Objectives:
-- Develop strategic plan for support of future company information requirements.
-- Support effective and efficient business processes in partnership with other software development teams.
-- Identify ownership and accountability for enterprise information.
-- Develop Enterprise Data Model (EDM).
-- Create and refine logical data models that reflect concepts/structures in the EDW and serve as the basis for relational database design.
-- Ensure that information needs and business rules are in compliance with global policies and standards.
-- Participate in evaluating new technologies to ensure the continuity and advancement of data and technology architecture within company information needs.
-- Build a framework for accurately capturing, sharing, distributing, securing, and leveraging company data resources.
-- Provide enterprise metadata repository services.
Primary Objectives:
-- Capacity planning - Collect and analyze usage trends to make sure hardware meets current and future DASD and desired response times.
-- Performance tuning - Review all ETL and queries making sure they use efficient plans.
-- Add statistics or indexes to improve query performance without degrading ETL process.
-- Tune scheduling mix to remove peaks and valleys.
-- System availability - Work with NCR to resolve problems, outages or slowdowns. Plan, test and Implement new versions of software.
-- Archives - Ensure data needed for business needs is available and older data is archived in a timely manner. Make sure data archives can be restored for business purposes.
-- Implement ownership of physical database design - Maintain physical structure and view layer using enterprise naming standards. Selection of Primary Index and summary level tables.
-- Security - ensure users can only access information they are privileged to access. Control deactivation of inactive users. Ensure security procedures follow corporate standards and document variances.
Minimum:
-- Expert Data Architecture / Data Modeling experience for large-scale applications.
-- Minimum 7 years experience in a Teradata Database Administrator role
-- 5+ years experience in performance tuning Teradata models.
-- Strong background in structured systems and data analysis.
-- Demonstrated ability with JAD and RAD methodologies.
-- Expertise in relational database design (normalized and dimensional).
-- Skilled with one or more data modeling CASE tools (e.g. ERwin, SilverRun, LBMS, S-Designor).
-- Proficient with MS Office suite.
Desired:
-- Experience with Business Objects software application.
-- Experience with Informatica software application.
-- Experience with Enterprise Integration project(s).
-- Consumer and/or retail experience a plus.
-- Database administration experience a plus.
-- Knowledge of UNIX a plus.
Education:
-- BS or BA, desirable.

-- 3+ years experience with data modeling tools such as ERWin, S-Designor, or equivalent.
-- Strong ability to work with business units to formulate business and data requirements.
-- Ability to work with database administrators to complete database designs and models.
-- Highly motivated individual with very good analytical skills dedicated to completing tasks on schedule.
-- Willing to work overtime as needed.
