COBOL / .Net Developer

Analyzes, designs, writes program code, tests documents, and implements functionality appropriate, technically sound, and well-integrated custom and third party application systems in accordance with customer requirements and organizational methodologies and standards.

Responsibilities

1 Responds to production program problems. Managers resolution of problems and escalates as required. Performs predictive, proactive root cause analysis.
2 Analyzes and resolves problems of medium complexity.
3 Researches and recommends alternative actions for problem resolution with minimal direction. Analyzes trends to proactively prevent problems.
4 Analyzes, designs, programs viable solutions for medium complexity business problems according to user specifications and develops detailed program specifications.
5 Evaluates and recommends emerging technologies. Compiles with project management methodology requirements as appropriate. Develops detailed program specifications for self and others.
6 Tests and implements systems and enhancements using techniques that meet generally accepted coding standards. Assists less senior engineers when performing system and acceptance testing.
7 Ensures that programs are functionally appropriate and technically sound. Understands interdependencies and acts to avoid problems.
8 Identifies process or systems enhancements for business customers. Develops accurate and reliable cost analysis estimates.

Key Relationships

1 Interacts with business clients to define, analyze, and deliver customer requirements.
2 Serves as communications liaison between the business customer and the technology development and support groups.

Core Competencies

Strong partnering, communication, and negotiating skills. Ability, within a specific technology area, to independently complete root-cause analysis, design solutions, write code, perform testing, provide documentation, and implement medium size development projects or major components of large projects. Ability to review the technical work of less senior engineers, analyze and resolve problems of medium complexity. Project management skills. Strong customer service/team orientation.

Qualifications

1 B.S./B.A. in computer science, engineering, information systems preferred, and/or equivalent formal training or work experience.
2 Position typically filled by candidates having 5-10 years' experience in one of more IT areas.
3 Experience with VB2, COBOL/DB2 and experience with On-Call Experience is a must.
4 Experience with .NET, SQL-Server, Classic ASP, VB/Java Scripting is preferred.
5 Software design, development, and strong communication skills.
