Basic Function:
A Sr. Data Architect is responsible for ensuring the support and implementation of the Enterprise Data Architecture within the future vision development efforts of JCPenney. The objective of this vision is to achieve a highly managed data environment within the enterprise data model. Data Architects will participate with the Application Teams and the Business Departments to identify, analyze, define, and model data relevant to the information needs and requirements of existing and proposed systems. The Data Architect has both strategic and tactical responsibility for developing and maintaining the Conceptual and Logical Models for larger, more complex relational (including dimensional) environments and projects.

Essential Job Function:

Customer / Business Orientation:
  • Focus on internal and external Customer requirements.
  • Provides Leadership in key iterations with business Customers to define, analyze, and deliver Customer requirements.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of business processes being supported by assigned system(s).
  • Demonstrate proficient understanding of business processes across multiple business Customers.

    Project Management:
  • Provide Leadership as a communications liaison for the Enterprise Data Architecture team between the business Customer and the technology development and support groups.
  • Develop time estimates for project schedules, monitor progress, and provide accurate and timely reports.
  • Plan and manage project activities within allocated resources.
  • Manage resolution of problems and escalate as required.
  • Work across projects (of any size or scope) to synchronize data analysis efforts and deliverables.
  • Negotiate and manage team relationships at project level.
  • Support the organization's project management policy, practice, and methodology.

    Problem Solving:
  • Employ productivity aids in all aspects of assignments.
  • Analyze and resolve problems of medium complexity.
  • Independently research and recommends alternative actions for problem resolution.

    Systems Development Engineering:
  • Provide leadership to design, create, implement, and support complex data models to meet multiple project and system design requirements.
  • Implement complex changes to existing data models, as well as retrofitting physical database changes into logical and conceptual models.
  • Design conceptual and logical data models at a project level.
  • Create, administer, and document data dictionaries, data ownership, and stewardship rules, CRUD (create, read, update, and delete) matrices to meet project requirements.

    Testing / Deliverable Quality:
  • Assist when conducting requirements gathering sessions and reviewing modeling efforts with Project Team and other Data Architects to ensure model cross references to the Requirements Matrix.
  • Ensure all modeling efforts adhere to the Data Frameworks Code of Practice and all models are properly managed within a Configuration Management tool.

    Production Support:
  • Assist the DBA's and Project Teams in analyzing and resolving highly complex performance problems.
  • Participate as necessary with the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of database problems. Provide insight when necessary to future risks or issues through communication.
  • Work with application teams to recommend process or system enhancements.
    Qualifications and Requirements:

    Education:
  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems and / or equivalent formal training or work experience.


    Experience:
  • Greater than 8 years work experience in data architecture, specializing in conceptual and logical data modeling
  • Demonstrated experience with computer or network systems hardware and software development methodology / process obtained through formal training, education and / or work experience.
  • Experience with analysis, design, and development of simple to medium complexity data models.
  • Experience as a technical or Team lead.

  • Completes tasks independently / interdependently.
