The senior role is a client facing position with responsibilities for the development of system specifications and architecture standards, technical designs, implementation plans, and coordination of complex installation projects with the network engineering staff, clients, development staff, and vendors. Additionally, reviewing network hardware and software products and making recommendations based on technologies, best practices, systems and clients requirements.
The Senior Network Engineer must have the ability to work with members of the customer community and members of internal as well as external business entities, should have the ability to work independently and as a member of a team environment, including providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the Network team. The Senior Engineer should be flexible but thorough and be able to quickly absorb new technologies and strategies, present them and apply them to the appropriate work environment.
Additional responsibilities include:
- 2nd and 3rd level support for the LAN, WAN, Remote Access and Extranet infrastructures, including network design and implementation, hardware and circuit provisioning, installation, customization, problem analysis, and resolution.
- The engineer will work assigned projects and tasks, managing them from planning through to successful implementation, in accordance with ACS standards.
- Participate in the on call coverage rotation.
- Generate and review daily and weekly exception reports and monthly network performance reports, perform analysis and provide appropriate recommendations.
- Thorough knowledge of the Cisco platforms with emphasis of routers, switches, content devices, VPN and firewalls.
- Thorough knowledge and performance tuning of routing, switching and firewall security.
- Knowledge of DNS architecture, design, implementation and maintenance.
- Review all network change controls and provide feedback to address technical accuracy.
- Thorough understanding of TCP/IP addressing, IP Subnetting, Spanning Tree, Trunking, IPSec, SNA, and SNMP, experience with IP based protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, PPP, GRE, IPSec, and HDLC) and a thorough understanding of Frame Relay and ATM Wide Area Networking (VoIP, QOS/COS,CBWFG, and CAR).
- Support for Optical, DWDM and Sonet technology. Troubleshooting complex application and network issues in LAN/WAN and merce type environments.

Education and Typical Years of Experience:
Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of 5-7 years of related technical support experience. Requires advanced knowledge and experience in a full range of technology platforms and systems.
