Power Optimization Center Operations Specialist
STATUS: OPEN
DURATION: 12-15 months
LOCATION: Dallas, TX
PAY RATE: $30-36/hr.

REQUIRED! Gas, Lignite (coal) or Nuclear Power Plant Experience. Nuclear ARMY experience is NOT sufficient. Candidate should have operator or predicative maintenance experience in a power plant.

The manager would like to have candidates with coal fired experience and/or equipment reliability experience. GT Operator experience is not a good fit for this position.

Summary:
This position provides subject matter expertise to the POC (Power Optimization Center) regarding operations of nuclear and fossil plant equipment. The POC Operations Specialist has primary responsibility for providing operational support to the POC. This includes responding to, evaluating and prioritizing incoming alarms from the plants utilizing several different computer software systems. The POC Operations Specialist will provide direct feedback based on the Operator s experience as a Plant Operator and indication provided by several software systems. The POC Operations Specialist is directly accountable to the POC Operations Manager. This position requires shift work in support of 24X7 operation of the Power Optimization Center.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Understand computerized plant models and apply that information to lignite (coal) plant situations utilizing operational experience.
- Detect potential equipment and system abnormalities based on alarms and routine investigation.
- Provide operational expertise during activation of the Emergency Operations Center and implement emergency procedures.
- Develop and deploy computerized operational monitoring tools within the plants to be monitored by the POC.
- Perform software maintenance and develop an integrated knowledge for software interconnections within the POC and the power plant.
- Identify potential plant operational improvement opportunities through effective use of the POC software applications.
- Provide recommendations concerning operation and optimization of plant equipment and systems through effective communications with plant personnel and management.
- Support the development of business cases for capital improvements and repairs recommended by the POC.
- Develop/modify/review plant operational procedures as needed for optimal unit and equipment operations.
- Provide technical expertise as requested by power plant management to assist in the resolution of plant operational issues.
- Deliver organizational work products within budget, on schedule, and meeting quality expectations.
- Contribute to the achievement of applicable performance metrics, as defined for Luminant.
- The incumbent provides subject matter expertise across the Luminant generation fleet. The in-scope fleet consists of two nuclear units, twelve lignite units (three under construction), and thirteen gas units. The combined net generating capacity of the subject fleet is approximately 13,000 MWe.

Internal/External Interfaces: Establish and maintain effective relationships with corporate organizations, plant management, and industry groups to facilitate goals and objectives.Required Skills:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or 4 years related Lignite/Fossil/Coal power plant experience.
- Two years as a Fossil plant Operator.
- Established expertise in all aspects of fossil plant equipment and systems operations.
- Some computer skills and the aptitude to learn several new software applications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:
- Familiarity with Reliability Centered Maintenance principles and practices.
- Familiarity with Predictive Maintenance technologies.
- Familiarity with contemporary telecommunications technologies.
- Knowledge of power plant equipment condition monitoring and diagnostic technologies.
- Proficiency in the use of Excel, Work, PowerPoint, OSI PI and Access.

Additional Details:
- The company is going to 24/7 operation for POC.
- Contractors will work a 12 hour rotating shift. (4 day a week, 12 hours per day - OT rate is straight time)
- No per diem is offered for this position. The manager would like the contractors to be local to the DFW area.
- Contractors will receive 1 week of paper training and then on the job training for a couple weeks before the go live for 24 hour operation.
- Manager will interview candidates face to face - looking for not only experience, but also attitude

- Candidates MUST have prior lignite plant experience as either a plant operator or plant engineer
