Computer Operations Supervisor in Dallas, TX

Schedules and coordinates the workflow of computer operations personnel; plans and supervises the work of assigned staff and reviews activities to ensure that performance meets predetermined schedules and standards so that output is correct, complete and meets user expectations. Incumbent is technically capable of performing a full range of complex operations assignments either directly or through subordinates. Errors may cause considerable delay, expense and/or disruption. REPRESENTATIVE PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules work of users and makes assignments for a 24/7 computer center, balancing effective service delivery with staff developmental considerations; monitors backlogs and takes steps to reduce or avoid them. Supervises the workflow and workload of Console Operations, Tape Operations, and/or production monitoring. Provides technical assistance to system users in resolving computing operations problems and acts as a central point of contact regarding matters affecting area. May participate in administration and troubleshooting financial tracking/utilization. Reviews system usage/performance, identifies/resolves system problems; initiates tracking/reporting of maintenance and consults with management on system issues. Coordinates testing, implementation, and installation of new/improved systems, upgrades, and network lines. Works with facilities management; assists in equipment layout and design, installation and maintenance repair, movement, etc. Conducts daily/weekly meetings and interacts regularly with management, clients and staff to constantly identify ways to improve data center operations. Maintains physical security of area and monitors operations for breach of security utilization. Reviews/analyzes operator logs. Reviews hardware efficiency. Traces sources of errors and differentiates between programmer errors and machine malfunctions. Assists management in establishing equipment schedules and evaluating vendors and suppliers, and effecting hardware and software upgrades. Establishes and maintains network users, user environment, directories and security. Manages memory usage of the network, network printing, and network technical resources. Ensures adherence to department policies/procedures as well as generate requested or required reports for customers and management. Keeps apprised of developments in field of expertise to ensure currency of knowledge. May coordinate activities of multiple shift supervisors to ensure smooth, continuous operations. High School or GED or Associate degree or equivalent experience. Four or more years of experience in a data center environment or related computer operations experience in a large scale, complex, multi-function environment of computer systems, platforms, peripherals and operating procedures, including knowledge of scheduling and job processing languages.
